Whole bunches of Dandelion Vineyard's best Adelaide Hills Chardonnay were hand picked in the cool of twilight to retain fresh, racing acidity and gorgeous fruit aromas. The free run juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks before spending 9 months in new and first use French oak barriques. The resulting Chardonnay is citrussy, with white peach, nectarine, melon and pear fruit flavours, nderpinned by layers of almond-like pastry and a textural minerality. "An inviting, pale chardonnay, with a subdued nose of melon, white peach, apple pastries and almondy oak. The palate is smooth and seamless with juicy balance and measured barrel influence. It's lifted by tight acidity, emphasising its relatively light, low alcohol personality. The finish is long and mouth-watering... 92pts" (Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Real Review).
Almond trees were once widely planted in McLaren Vale, including on the land where the Richard Hamilton Almond Grove Chardonnay is now grown. The fresh 2023 vintage has a beautiful bouquet of freshly cut nectarine with a subtle influence of French oak. It's a medium-bodied Chardonnay bursting with stone fruit and enhanced by a spiced creaminess thanks to a combination of new French oak and ample maturation on less. The wine finishes dry with a clean, bright, soft acidity. An excellent companion for poultry, seafood or pasta.
This juicy, vibrant gem comes from Jeff and Vicki Dewar’s spectacular hillside vineyards in WA’s beautiful Ferguson Valley, a sub-region of the rugged Geographe region. "Jeff and Vicky Dewar have followed a fast track in developing Willow Bridge in the Ferguson Valley” says James Halliday. He also rated ther beautiful winery among his ‘Best Wineries of 2014’ and ‘Dark Horse Wineries of 2013’. Look for delicious white peach and minerally grapefruit characters on a gently creamy palate with just a hint of spicy oak. It's a treat with tasty salads... smoked chicken or seared tuna would be divine.
Zonte’s Footstep wines are hugely popular with both wine drinkers, critics and show judges alike. And once you’ve tasted one of their wines, you soon see why. As UK writer Matthew Jukes says, “Zonte’s Footstep wines are not ‘old world’, nor even ‘new world’, Zonte’s is out of this world!” The juicy, rounded – and exclusive – 93pt Zonte's Footstep Cream Puff Chardonnay is grown in the Adelaide Hills. The cool climate fruit is ripe with yellow stone fruit, melon and citrus characters. Choux pastry notes, light baking spice and a subtle creamy palate inspire the name. "Wonderfully composed and expressed, the wine shows ripe nectarine, lemon peel, cedar and brioche characters on the nose, leading to a beautifully rounded palate that's succulent and supple. Well balanced by juicy acidity, offering terrific drinking... 93pts" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit).
Established in 1972, Mountadam High Eden Estate is one of Australia’s oldest cool climate Chardonnay vineyards. Situated on a unique rocky outcrop the estate commands an easterly aspect 500-550m high over Eden Valley. On release the wine is pale straw in colour. It displays classic Chardonnay characters of peach, nectarine and fresh figs. French oak barrel fermentation and maturation gives the wine secondary aromas of cashew nuts and mixed spices. The palate has a complex mix of peach, citrus, cashew nuts, subtle truffle and spice characters throughout.
It didn't take much encouragement from Yarra Valley winemaker Dr John Middleton to convince TarraWarra Estate's Marc and Eva Besen to plant their first 6 hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir back in 1983. Their love of Burgundian wines also played a part. Today, a beautiful cellar door and restaurant stand on the property amid 28 hectares of vines, an extensive nature reserve, cattle grazing and a kitchen garden. The Chardonnay was selected from seven separate blocks across the property, and boasts great intensity of stone fruit flavour, a touch of citrus and underlying cashew nut flavours. Creamy texture and subtle use of oak leading to a fresh, lingering finish. A well-deserved 95pt score the result – this is a treat!
