This is a cracking new release from RedHeads, a leading eco-friendly boutique winery in Oz. The winery was started in 2002 in the McLaren Vale - a cellar where young winemakers could come in their spare time and make just the sort of small scale wine they dreamed of. Since then, the winery has put down real roots in the Barossa, very nearly 100% off-grid, thanks to its solar panels, and nearly self sufficient on recycled water. There, surrounded by all of the Aussie big players, they rescue small parcels of terrific grapes and make showstopping wines. Catbird Seat is a standout – all the grapes from Jack Burston's cracking Coonawarra vineyard. RedHeads bagged them and has done him proud. Aged a year in French oak, it's a big, bold red.
The Winemakers Selection offers quality in every glass you pour, because it's the winemakers who oversee all of life's best drinking experiences - from vineyard, to barrel, to the bottle in your hand. Great wine starts with individuals who share a great passion for winemaking and viticulture, those who are prepared to look deeper than the rest, work a little harder and stay that bit longer. In addition, they intimately know their craft. This smooth McLaren Vale Cabernet melds black fruit chocolatey goodness with a hint of mint. Superb on its own or with something straight from the oven.
The 50th consecutive vintage of Cabernet from iconic Coonawarra pioneer, Redman. Intense blackberry nose, with hints of fennel, olive tapenade, rose petal and smoky cedar. Juicy blackcurrant, cassis and plum flavours. Medium-bodied in true Coonawarra style, benefitting from those famed terra rossa soils. Heavenly with lamb roast and rosemary. <"Elegant… fine boned.…understated. Gorgeous... 91pts" (Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion).
Hurry to taste this deliciously dark customer favourite from Greg Follett’s lovely Lake Breeze estate, named Australia’s Champion Small Winery, Champion Wine four times, and well over 25 trophies and 125 Golds. Traditional open fermentation was employed followed by maturation in French oak barriques for 20 months, prior to bottling. The wine displays a lifted aromatics of black fruits and violets, along with some cedary oak nuances. The concentrated palate showcases chocolate and cassis flavours wrapped in grippy tannins, all leading to a wonderfully long finish.
Taylors are a founding member of Australia’s First Family of Wines and are “managing to do for the Clare Valley what Peter Lehmann did for the Barossa” with “a rich haul of Trophies and Golds at all price points” (Halliday). Bill Taylor, grandfather of the current custodian, Mitchell, first set foot on the estate on the same day that Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon, in 1969. Three generations later, Taylors has a worldwide reputation for excellence. They've also been voted one of the Top 5 Wineries in the World (for the fourth successive year). The award comes from the World Association of Writers and Journalists of Wines and Spirits (WAWWJ) who combine the results of the top 75 International Wine contests across five continents. In fact, in 2018 the estate was rated the ‘No. 1 Most Awarded Winery in the World’ by this body. Look forward to subtle aromas of cedar and dark chocolate, great intensity with distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.
Plush Margaret River classic from a superb vintage. The structure is medium to full bodied with fine tannins and great length. An elegant style with great varietal and regional character. Expressive aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, capsicum, dried bay leaf and cedar. Generous layers of fruit flavours (blackcurrants, plums and cassis), as well as vanilla, mocha and spice come in waves across a velvety palate. "A supple and seductive texture leads to the most delicate tannins. A fine line of acidity runs the length with good fruit intensity at all times with more rich chocolate notes emerging on the palate. This has ten years in it, more resting in a top cellar, 95pts" (Wine Pilot).
