There are still some sunny afternoons left for lovely Rosé sipping … and these full-flavoured drops go so well with Autumn fare too. The Marchand & Burch Villages from WA is Pinot Noir based – look out for the lovely bright berry fruit and forest floor notes. Then, taste a cool, classy Adelaide Hills gem made with Cabernet from the renowned Howard Vineyard. Head to Langhorne Creek for a silky Sangiovese star, and then enjoy two mouthwatering blends – one from Kings’ Creed using Fleurieu fruit, crafted by the great Ben Riggs, the other from the lovely Krystallo Estate in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley. Last, you’ve a Garnacha Rosado from sunny Navarra in Spain. These are delicious – enjoy!
Drop Zone has marked premium vineyards throughout South Australia to create a range of complex and varietally distinctive wines. Packed inside this pink labelled bottle is a Rosé made from Sangiovese grapes specially selected from a quality Langhorne Creek vineyard. The aromatic fruit is softly pressed in the cool of morning to preserve the bright fruit freshness and traditional flavours. Lifted aromas of cherry and guava, combined with attractive red fruit flavours and a hint of talc on the finish. "Sweetly fruited and fabulously lifted, the bouquet shows raspberry, crunchy apple, citrus peel and floral aromas, followed by a lively palate displaying fine texture and vibrant acidity, finishing refreshing and lingering... 92pts" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit).
This is quite simply the best-value pink in our range. It’s a classic from Navarra, a region famed for its juicy summer-berry rosados and first choice for Spanish wine lovers. The winery lies up in the hills, so the climate is a little cooler with a serious drop in temperature at night. This increases the time it takes for grapes to ripen - the result is even greater aroma and intense flavours in your glass. Plus, that refreshing zip you want from a pink. It’s made from premium Garnacha grapes, the most important variety for rosado in this region. In charge is Gonzalo Zelayeta, who ensures picking at just the right moment for ripeness and crispness. With bright berry fruit and lemony zip, this pink is perfect solo, with tapas or seafood.
Crafted by highly regarded WA winemaker Nick Bowen and sourced mainly from 20-year-old Pinot Noir plantings at Mt Barker in Great Southern, this Rosé drips with Provence styling, from its pale salmon colour to the lip-smacking tension between savouriness and fruit. Hints of cucumber, red apple skins and raspberries, with a whiff of fairy floss. Elegant, delicate, delicious. “Savoury, fine and textural … and very good... 92pts” (Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion).
Be Bold. Be Brave. Be Courageous. That’s the motto of Kings’ Creed in South Australia’s beautiful Adelaide Hills district. Their aim is to “craft small batch wines of quality with bold character.” The wines are made by the legendary Ben Riggs, so that’s a creed that will be easy to live up to. Their gorgeous Rosé certainly shows lots of wonderful bold berry flavours on a deliciously tang, crisp palate. Chill, sip and enjoy!
Crafted from the plump and juicy Merlot grapes of Victoria's Upper Goulburn region, the 93pt Belitso Rosé reflects winemaker Adrian Santolini's skill in crafting pretty cool-climate wines. The grapes were lightly pressed to avoid extracting too much colour from the skins, leading to a delightfully salmon pink Rosé. The juice was fermented in stainless steel, before the wine was filtered and bottled to capture the fresh fruit flavours. Bright red berry aromas and sweet florals emerge after pouring. On the palate, savoury spice, watermelon and a tangy raspberry acidity complete this crisp, textural wine. Enjoy it over lunch with a creamy avocado and crab salad. "This is fabulously styled and fragrant on the nose with watermelon, sweet cherry, apricot and floral aromas. The succulent palate delivers gentle weight and fine flow, leading to an elegantly flavoursome, refreshing finish... 93pts" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit).
While it’s produced similarly to other red wines, the time Rosé ferments with grape skins is cut shorter. This reduced skin contact is what gives Rosé its signature pink colour. This vibrant Trophy-winning example is from Howard Vineyard's aptly named 400 Metre Range, grown close to 400m above sea level in their Clover Farm vineyard near Mt Barker. It boasts aromas of fresh strawberries, ripe raspberries and blueberries with savoury notes of clove and spice – and Gold and a TRophy from the highly competitive Adelaide Hills Wine Show. Well matched with crispy pork belly or prawn toast.
