With origins in Spain and southern France, where he still regularly distinguishes himself, this impressive figure first set foot here in 1840 and today also calls South Australia home. The Governor General may have been around a while but has an eye to the future. He mixes effortlessly, but is bold enough to stand alone. Possessed of great potential strength and power, he more often displays his lighter side, with seductive charm and finesse. For many, his approachable style is very refreshing, and even at his most chilled, you’ll always receive a warm welcome.

Established in 1860 and run continuously by the Purbrick family since 1925, Tahbilk is regarded as one of Victoria’s best producers of cool-climate Cabernet and Shiraz. You’ll find a delicious blend of blackberries, blueberries and vanilla here. Herbal and cedar hints from time spent in American and French oak taking that complexity further, with savoury tannins on the finish giving structure. Jeni Port in the Halliday Wine Companion calls it a "classic in many ways", and Huon Hook in The Real Review points out its "spicy and meaty nuances … delicious flavour and mouth-feel, plenty of extract, generous fluffy tannins and a long long finish. Salena Estate is named after the daughter of Bob and Sylvia Franchitto, the owners of what has become one of Australia’s largest family wine producers. For over 20 years ago they have strived for and achieved in making to great value, world-class wines which have found a place at the table both in Australia and overseas. Their continued investment in state-of-the-art equipment, as well as a vast array of quality French and American oak hogsheads and barriques, has allowed them to turn the product of excellent vineyards into what are evidently exceptional wines. Like this fabulous Barossa Shiraz, abundant with ripe mulberry and plum with hints of liquorice, vanilla and spice.

An elegant and balanced expression of Margaret River Shiraz. Vibrant red currant and cherry aromas lift from the glass, leading to a palate of juicy sweet red fruits, sweet vanilla, baking spice and a hint of mocha. The Fidium, Moss Brother’s flagship, was matured for 18 months in French oak (30% new). There's plenty of spice here plus a velvety, plush mouthfeel, with fine tannins. Brilliant value here. In a textbook vintage, fruit from the Yacca Paddock Vineyard in Kuitpo (In the south west corner of the Adelaide Hills), has produced a juicy, bright Tempranillo of cherry and red berry aromas, with a blue-fruited palate , Ned Goodwin in The Halliday Wine Companion finds it "impressive" So do we – and others. “Deep, bold purple colour, with a youthfully bright spicy and meaty bouquet that hints at carbonic maceration. The palate is rich and fruit-sweet, succulent and delicious, with fine and smooth tannins and fleshy texture. A succulent wine, drinking well now and for a few years hence” (Huon Hooke, The Real Review).

From Lake Breeze, Halliday Wine Companion's 'Best Value Winery of the Year 2022'. They also dominate year after year at the Langhorne Creek Wine Show as the Gold medal will attest. The grapes for the Bullant Cabernet Merlot were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek. Dark, sweet Cabernet fruit flavours with a warm heart of Merlot. The value here just can't be beat.
