Thistledown was started by friends Giles Cooke and Fergal TynanIn, who had met when studying for the Masters of Wine exams. In their fun-loving 92pt Thistledown Cloud Cuckoo Land, Italian varietals from the Riverland come together in harmony. A vibrant, textural white with hints of almond blossom, quince and ripe pear, it's tangy, almost exotic, but pithy and delicious. It makes a great aperitif – Ned Goodwin MW in The Halliday Wine Companion asks if it might be "the best in the country?".

For the Marauding Vintners, real wine is not a commodity, but an expression of people, place and time, where art and nature merge. They know the real deal is often found off the beaten track, and devote time to tracking down the genuine characters. French born, Ms S still reigns in Bordeaux, select Loire venues and on stages in Sauternes, but is now a world fashion icon. A superstar in New Zealand with performances of impact and intensity, she might appear elsewhere in tropical guise, or adopt a smoky mystique and the name 'Fumé'. She flirts with partners, but proudly sports her Ms title. Here in Adelaide Hills, she's chilled and relaxed, combining fresh tropical charm and chic, crisp elegance. Lovely passionfruit, lime and lemongrass aromas. Crisp and crunchy palate with tightly-wound, refreshing acidity. At the centre, a refined fruit core of peach, lemon and gooseberry made textural with slate-like minerality.

Established in 1972, Mountadam Vineyards was founded by the late David Wynn, the first to recognise the potential of a cool, elevated site to produce Australian wines of great elegance and structure. He named the vineyard after his son, Adam who later became the estate's winemaker. Today, Mountadam is increasingly producing meticulously crafted wines of significant elegance. This is a lovely drop with "bell-clear varietal character" (Halliday).

Situated within the traditional lands of the Taungurung people, tabilk-tabilk means ‘place of many waterholes', a name that aptly describes the abundance of the landscape. Tahbilk is a founding member of Australia’s First Families of Wine, it was also the proud recipient of James Halliday’s Winery of the Year award in 2016. Its renowned Marsanne, steely when young, silkily textured with time, are an absolute must-try, and this 2021 vintage is "… a deadset gold medal... 95pts. Great Value" (James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion). Be enthralled by intense lemon, lime and tropical aromas, honeysuckle and spicy notes with a steely minerality.

Wine Summary

The Watervale sub-region of South Australia's Clare Valley has become synonymous with aromatic citrus and floral scented Riesling as fresh-tasting as the name Watervale sounds. The estate-grown vines which provide the fruit for the Crabtree Watervale Riesling range from 20 to 44 years old. The bouquet suggests fresh lemon and lime, touches of orange blossom and wild flowers. On the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced with a pleasant citrus backing. Will match well with a white fish ceviche. “Tingly & bright…Very smart... 92pts” (Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion). A must for Riesling lovers – and for those wondering why there are growing numbers of them.
