Wine Summary
Like the gorilla on the label, the Durif grape is equal parts big, dark and powerful. But don't be fooled, in the right hands, it can show a feminine side as well, especailly when blended to such great effect. The Cat, Bats & Dawn showcases South Australian Durif (70%), grown by Chris Byrne from the Gum and Roses vineyard near Loxton, and is rounded out by Barossa Valley Grenache (20%) and Shiraz (10%). Durif is well suited to warmer climates and thrives in the warmth of the Riverland. Matured in seasoned French and American oak barrels for added spice and depth. Alluring aromas of blackberries and black pepper leap from your glass, while the palate carries cherries, dark fruits and hints of chocolate.

Wine Summary
A terrific, Gold medal take on France’s classic Syrah Viognier recipe. RedHeads uses premium old vine fruit and traditional methods, finishing the wine with 14 months in barrel. Hence the gorgeous silky black fruit and lavish oaky complexity. Named after the ancient Monkey King who had an insatiable hunger for roasted coconuts (Noix de Coco Rôties), this is a superbly balanced red. It’s from RedHeads, a small, very eco winery with only one vineyard. For the rest they have an impressive list of growers to draw upon, to ensure, every year, they receive just the fruit they’re after. For the 2019, Jeff McMurtrie, John Kalleske, Darren Arney and the Lloyd brothers – all at least 2nd generation growers in South Australia's finest areas – did them proud. Co fermenting Syrah with the Viognier skins (just like the northern Rhône) in open top fermenters, hand plunging and 10 months' oak ageing has produced a red with elegant fruit and velvety tannins. Ideally decant an hour beforehand.

Wine Summary
‘Moonlighter’ captures the very essence of the RedHeads concept. Right at the beginning, when RedHeads started in the McLaren Vale, a handful of dedicated, rule-breaking, young winemakers, with a day job at the big corporations, would arrive at RedHeads studio early evening, down a cold beer, then start on crafting a ‘real’ wine, with all the unbridled passion you’d expect from the newly qualified winemaking elite Down Under. The same goes on today in the Barossa Valley RedHeads winemaking studio. Moonlighters is a super-innovative blend of grapes and wine regions, only the best parcels of South Australian fruit make it in.

Wine Summary
20 years ago, a lightbulb moment resulted in the creation of RedHeads by Tony and Tom Laithwaite. It was a no-gimmicks, no-rules cellar where young, talented (and rebellious) winemakers could moonlight and make small-batch wines that really rocked their boat. Growers started bringing in pick-up loads of their best grapes they wanted 'rescuing' from the mega-blends. RedHeads winemakers began to gain a reputation as the ‘Robinhood of grapes’ – saving parcels to make into handcrafted wines. So popular, the cellar outgrew its original home and, for a few years, it moved from shed to shed. Finally it bought its own vineyard and built a state-of-the-art, off-grid, solar-powered eco winery. RedHeads by name, green by nature, with awards galore.

Wine Summary
If you fancy a bona fide Aussie wine experience, crack open a bottle of this handcrafted classic. It’s from the small RedHeads winery – a kind of utopia for a small troop of lucky winemakers. Here, freedom from the corporate rule book, healthy competition between ‘mates’ and an overriding air of creativity beget great wines. Wines that have caught the imagination of critics and customers alike. Last vintage, this cracking red scored 95pts from Winestate Magazine and won two Golds! Cabernet and Shiraz grapes from top grower mates, 'rescued' from large corporate blends, are crafted here into this gently oaked red, with luscious berry fruit and underlying tones of creamy vanilla and spice. A tasty partner to shepherd’s pie or griddled steak.

Wine Summary
Crafted near the Adelaide Hills, the brilliantly rich, Spanish-inspired Redheads Vin'Atus is a must-have for any serious fan of RedHeads. Made right here in Australia from a trio of Spanish grapes spied on the Rocca's small family property in One Tree Hill, a tiny hamlet between the Barossa and Adelaide Hills. Not quite in the elevated part, it gets quite warm during the day, but there’s a cool draught from the Hills at night, which slows ripening and explains the amazing deep crimson hue. A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Grenache, this playful drop struts dark, brooding Aussie pizzazz with old-world inspiration. Enjoy complex aromas of spiced plum, dark berries and savoury spice, hints of dark chocolate and vanilla with silky tannins and a pleasant, lengthy finish. Pair your Redheads Vin'Atus with a flavoursome saffron infused chorizo paella. Simply delicious.
