The original black pig was named Tanuki. He was a cheeky little pork chop. So loved was he by his winemaking owner, it was only right we honoured this special pig with a wine of his own. Produced from hand-selected fruit from top McLaren Vale vineyards, The Black Pig Shiraz leaps from the glass with sumptuous, rich and ripe blackcurrant tones and vanilla snippets. Oozing lashings of cedar, ripe berries and hints of chocolate this stunning Gold-winning Shiraz is the kind of wine that can drink now with ease, or be laid down for another 8 or so years. Shiraz drinking perfection.
The Semillon comes from Juniper's two Wilyabrup vineyards while the Sauvignon Blanc is grown in their Karridale vineyard to the south. Winner of a Gold medal and scoring 95pts at Royal Melbourne, the Crossing Original White displays aromas of citrus blossom, sliced apple, gooseberry,, lemon curd and blackcurrant notes. Light to medium-bodied with a gorgeously rounded, textural mouthfeel. A riper expression of Semillon (60%) and Sauvignon Blanc (40%) showing white peach, lime and grapefruit flavours with subtle hints of passionfruit, fennel and refreshing salinity. Beautifully balanced. Lingering, dry, zesty, citrus finish. Try this with grilled seafood or a vegetable linguine. Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion appauds its "succulence and juiciness". WA wine expert Ray Jordan calls it " a really punchy blend… loaded with tropical fruit and a little passion fruit" (Wine Pilot).
Ever fancied working in wine? First step, become a cellarhand! During vintage, wineries need all the help they can get, and getting a job as a cellarhand is easy. Being a cellarhand however (or a ‘barrel monkey’ as they are fondly called) is very hard work! Scrambling over barrels, dragging heavy hoses around, cleaning out two tonne fermenters – it’s not for the faint-hearted! And neither is this wine, named in honour of these hard workers. It’s a BIG full-flavoured red that will definitely impress. No monkeying around... this is a BIG McLaren Vale Shiraz that you will love.
This premium vineyard in Victoria’s cool Pyrenees district was originally established to provide high quality grapes for Penfolds and Seppelts. These days its remarkable fruit is bottled under its own label, to stunning critical acclaim. It's made by Andrew Koerner (of Blue Pyrenees fame) and his talented band of winemakers and viticulturists. Glenlofty's GO range offers great value but also great accessibility with lovely moreish fruit freshness.
King's Creed range is the result of a collaboration between winemaker Ben Riggs, former Wallaby Nathan Sharpe and ex-LVMH marketeer, David Krenich and aims to produce craft small batch wines of quality with bold character. This Adelaide Hills Pinot Grigio with its pear and citrus fruit has impressed so much that it boasts two Golds and a whopping 96pt score from Winestate magazine.
The Curtis family have been growning grapes and making wine in McLaren Vale since 1973. Their family winery is just west of the township of McLaren Vale and is now run by Mark, Thomas and Jenna Curtis, with the occasional word of two of guidance from their father, Claudio Curtis. Their Heritage label may be a nod to the past, but stylistically, this Grenache is modern, fresh and highly enjoyable. Aromas of soft red fruits, strawberries and raspberries especially, with hints of spice and rose petal. Sam Kim, Wine Orbit is full of praise: "This is delightfully styled, showing sweet cherry, floral, olive and warm spice aromas, leading to a beautifully smooth palate that's rounded and flowing. A lovely expression of the variety with an immediate appeal".
New Goodwin MW in the Halliday Wine Companion recommends chilling it to enhance its moreish quality further.
The premium grapes selected for the Fossilbed Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 were from vineyards planted in the ancient soils of the Limestone Coast. Stretching from the Victorian border to the Younghusband Peninsula in South Australia, the Limestone Coast is one of Australia's most versatile wine growing regions. Settled since the early 1840s, much of the region was submerged by sea as recently as 2 million years ago. The deep limestone deposits created by coral and ancient sealife are now home to Australia's most important source of fossils and are classified as a World Heritage site. This handcrafted Cabernet Sauvignon balances rich and lush black fruit (cassis and plum) with vanillin baking spice oak. Ready to enjoy now, but has the hallmarks of a wine which can cellar for a few years.
Malbec is a grape close to Sam's heart. His wife Maria, who works with him, is from Argentina, so perhaps that's not surprising. He also has a passion for the Durif grape and has done for decades. His car licence plate even reads 'DURIF'. What he loves most though is making wines that wine lovers adore. And he has been doing that for years very well indeed. We've worked with him for decades, and this shy, modest man is simply brilliant at creating wines that show judges – and our customers – love! His grandfathers back in Italy began the winemaking tradition of the Trimboli family, they would be very proud of Sam.
This 2022 vintage of the vibrant Slither of Sun turns the blend on its head, making apple and citrus fresh Semillon the star of the show, with Sauvignon Blanc bringing a tropical flair. If you love your whites crisp, fruit-driven and mouthwatering, then make room for this beautifully vibrant Sem Sauv in your fridge. It shows lots of lovely lemon fruit and a delicious grassiness that makes you think of summer. Chill it down and serve it up with the freshest seafood you can find.
A 'hart' is a term akin to stag, the name used for a male red deer. You can see The Hart proudly depicted on the front label of this beautiful 'limited release' Patronus Barossa Valley Pinot Noir. The Barossa might be known for its ripe, warming reds, but for those who know where to go, there are magical pockets of cool climate vineyards tucked between valleys and perched on hillsides. This is where winemaker Andrea Maxwell discovered the special parcel of Pinot Noir which made its way into The Hart Pinot Noir. The wine is light and fruity with aromas of green strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb. It is juicy yet soft and rounded with subtle spice and earthy notes. A fun and easy drinking red, especially when chilled 20 minutes before serving.
Many of you will remember Sam Trimboli from his days at Warburn Estate where, every vintage, he’d pick up literally hundreds of awards. He’s still on a winning streak, but now he’s renting space all for himself at a winery in Riverina, New South Wales. Sam makes there the mighty Black Duck, and his white version – the equally fruity and irresistible White Duck. Sam has been in the region for many years, so knows exactly where the best grapes are growing. In 2023, he selected when he wanted them picked too, cool fermenting and adding a touch of citrusy Pinot Grigio to the blend. This is the sort of wine you should never be short of, ready chilled in the fridge. Exuberant with bright melon fruit – serve solo or with a spicy noodle dish.
The McPherson family range carry names of family members on their labels. This citrus-charged Sauvignon is called Pickle's – Pickle being the name Nicole McPherson has been known by since she was a girl. "A fabulous food wine, Pickle’s Sauvignon Blanc is a great all-rounder and is best enjoyed surrounded by love and laughter" says their winery's website. Nice work again from winemakers Jo Nash and Olivia Forbes.
