Wine Summary

Blackstrap is sourced from some of the finest family-owned vineyards in McLaren Vale, widely regarded as one of Australia's premier red wine growing regions. The low-yielding vines produce flavour-packed grapes, which in turn make the kind of intensely flavoured, brilliantly coloured wines for which the region is renowned. Made in the excellent 2021 vintage, Blackstrap Cabernet Sauvignon is as dark and smooth as blackstrap molasses, with all the rich, ripe, peppery dark fruit character to match. Decant an hour or so before serving, then swirl in big-bowled glasses for maximum enjoyment.

Established in 1860 and run continuously by the Purbrick family since 1925, Tahbilk is regarded as one of Victoria’s best producers of cool-climate Cabernet and Shiraz. You’ll find a delicious blend of blackberries, blueberries and vanilla here. Herbal and cedar hints from time spent in American and French oak taking that complexity further, with savoury tannins on the finish giving structure. Jeni Port in the Halliday Wine Companion calls it a "classic in many ways", and Huon Hook in The Real Review points out its "spicy and meaty nuances … delicious flavour and mouth-feel, plenty of extract, generous fluffy tannins and a long long finish. Taylors are a founding member of Australia’s First Family of Wines and are “managing to do for the Clare Valley what Peter Lehmann did for the Barossa” with “a rich haul of Trophies and Golds at all price points” (Halliday). Bill Taylor, grandfather of the current custodian, Mitchell, first set foot on the estate on the same day that Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon, in 1969. Three generations later, Taylors has a worldwide reputation for excellence.They've also been voted one of the Top 5 Wineries in the World (for the fourth successive year). The award comes from the World Association of Writers and Journalists of Wines and Spirits (WAWWJ) who combine the results of the top 75 International Wine contests across five continents. In fact, in 2018 the estate was rated the ‘No. 1 Most Awarded Winery in the World’ by this body. Look forward to subtle aromas of cedar and dark chocolate, great intensity with distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.
