Elevate your Shiraz drinking with these premium Shiraz from top estates around Australia, including Serafino, Tyrrell’s Bleasdale, RedHeads and more, yours at an impressive $17.99 a bottle. All of them carry awards – either high points or Gold or both! Let them breathe to allow their complex flavours to unfurl, then savour with good food and good company.
It has been an exceptional few years for Bleasdale, after winning two of the Australian wine industry's most coveted trophies, Paul Hotker being awarded the Halliday 'Winemaker of the Year 2018', and now, Bleasdale have been crowned 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards – Winery of the Year. Their delightful Gold-winning, 92pt Bremerview Langhorne Creek Shiraz. It is "… bright and fresh…. Attractive price!... 92pts. Value Star" (James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion), and invites you in with aromas of plums and mulberries, as well as hints of milk chocolate and vanilla. Soft fruit-driven palate, with a savoury edge of green olive, soft tannins and fresh acidity driving through to a lingering finish. Matured in French oak (10% new) for 12 months.
Shiraz is very much the hero of Australia’s Barossa Valley. Aussie winemaking legend Peter Lehmann once said “When God created Shiraz, he did so with the Barossa in mind.” Patronus comes from a plot of old vines where the amount of fruit is miserly, but the quality is lavish. This Reserve version is a dark, inky beast with ripe aromas of smoky blackberry, fruitcake, toasty oak and dark chocolate… a bigger, bolder and more mouthcoating version of the bestselling Patronus. Get out your biggest glasses for this outstanding Reserve Shiraz! An excellent choice with venison or lamb backstrap.
Salena Estate is named after the daughter of Bob and Sylvia Franchitto, the owners of what has become one of Australia’s largest family wine producers. For over 20 years ago they have strived for and achieved in making to great value, world-class wines which have found a place at the table both in Australia and overseas. Their continued investment in state-of-the-art equipment, as well as a vast array of quality French and American oak hogsheads and barriques, has allowed them to turn the product of excellent vineyards into what are evidently exceptional wines. Like this fabulous Barossa Shiraz, abundant with ripe mulberry and plum with hints of liquorice, vanilla and spice.
20 years ago, a lightbulb moment resulted in the creation of RedHeads by Tony and Tom Laithwaite. It was a no-gimmicks, no-rules cellar where young, talented (and rebellious) winemakers could moonlight and make small-batch wines that really rocked their boat. Growers started bringing in pick-up loads of their best grapes they wanted 'rescuing' from the mega-blends. RedHeads winemakers began to gain a reputation as the ‘Robinhood of grapes’ – saving parcels to make into handcrafted wines. So popular, the cellar outgrew its original home and, for a few years, it moved from shed to shed. Finally it bought its own vineyard and built a state-of-the-art, off-grid, solar-powered eco winery. RedHeads by name, green by nature, with awards galore.
This Gold-medal Shiraz has a long record of collecting medals and high scores. It may be inspired by the Italian town of Sorrento, but it was grown in McLaren Vale, and shows all the big, rich dark fruit and chocolate intensity of a classic McLaren Vale Shiraz – the kind that won Steve Maglieri the title of ‘Bushing King’ (three times!), plus Trophies for Best Shiraz in the Great Australian Wine Challenge, and Best Shiraz and Red Wine of the Year at the London International Wine Challenge. And the kind that won winemaker Charles Whish a Jimmy Watson Trophy!
Grown on some of the top blocks on the Tyrrell’s estate and surrounding area, which have an average vine age of 40 years and are mostly dry grown. A modern, medium-bodied Australian Shiraz. The nose shows bright red fruits and savoury spice, which follows onto the palate. Primary, bright fruits balanced by savoury nuances, a hint of leather – along with soft, savoury tannins and a crunchy acidity that add to the wines complexity.
