Salena Estate is named after the daughter of Bob and Sylvia Franchitto, the owners of what has become one of Australia’s largest family wine producers. For over 20 years ago they have strived for and achieved in making to great value, world-class wines which have found a place at the table both in Australia and overseas. Their continued investment in state-of-the-art equipment, as well as a vast array of quality French and American oak hogsheads and barriques, has allowed them to turn the product of excellent vineyards into what are evidently exceptional wines. And when it comes to breathtaking Shiraz, their trotters rarely stray far from McLaren Vale. The original black pig that inspired this favourite label was a character-filled piglet called Tanuki. His descendants still roam the paddocks today. This excellent Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz is sourced from select premium sites in McLaren Vale and crafted with a greater focus on oak maturation. The result is a wine of greater depth and structure. Sumptuous blackberry, cherry and bramble, elevated liquorice, cocoa and pepper, with a harmonious cedar spice edge. The AAA on the label pays homage to David Paxton’s days in the wool trade and was stamped on the best grades of wool by the Guesser. It is a vibrant blend of Shiraz (55%), Grenache (41%) and Mataro (4%) from special little pockets of the estate. The Shiraz was selected from the ‘Gateway’ and ‘Jones Block’ vineyards, renowned for producing some of the best fruit in the region. These select parcels were blended with complementary Grenache to create a wine that is engaging and approachable. Forest fruits intertwined with raw coffee beans, notes of fresh curry leaves, pine resin and balsamic, along with a feather-light touch of delicate French oak. "cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, floral and bramble. Fleshy and mouthfilling, mid-weight, crunchy red and blue fruits and cedary spice. Firm, chalky tannins and lively acidity rounds the wine out nicel" (Aaron Brasher, The Real Review), Huon Hooke, also in The Real Review adds that it has "good depth and length of flavour. Smart and ageworthy stuff."

A vibrant, progressive family-owned winery in the premier wine region of McLaren Vale, Loom Wine work closely with various growers and distinguished vineyards throughout South Australia. An entrepreneur and mercurial spirit, Steve Grimley has always been connected to numerous and varied business enterprises. He grew up in the vineyards of South Australia – and simply knows everybody in the business. Winemaking royalty Matt Koch and Andrea Maxwell make up the other two thirds of this incredibly talented team. Made from a single site on the Southern Range in the Adelaide Hills, the exceptional 96pt Loom Long Yarn Shiraz certainly impressed the judges at the Royal Queensland Wine Awards where it took home a Top Gold. Seductive aromatics of dark fruits with a palate that knocks you back with a flex of crunchy acidity and tight tannins that linger. A great partner to fresh organic tomato-based dishes.

As UK writer Matthew Jukes says, “Zonte’s Footstep wines are not ‘old world’, nor even ‘new world’, Zonte’s is out of this world!” True red lovers know that Langhorne Creek provides incredible flavour – it was the ‘secret’ weapon in many of Wolf Blass’s famous Trophy-winning reds. And here you have it in pure form. The fruit comes from a single block in the heart of the region – the Lake Doctor Vineyard – which sits on the shores of Lake Alexandrina.
