The Wine
Originally called Wyndham Estate after George Wyndham who in 1823 bought vast areas of the Hunter Valley. Penfolds bought it in 1904 and renamed it. Dalwood is now owned by Sam Arnaout of Hungerford Hill, with Bryan Currie making the wine.
“The birth of Hunter Valley wine began at Dalwood in 1828 and the estate is now the longest running commercial vineyard in Australia. Quite a heritage. This modern Semillon is a neat contrast - it's not atypical. Hunter semillons can be austere, this isn't. It's subtly fragrant with florals and stone fruit. The palate has depth, length and generosity. Approachable now and delicious... 94pts” (Halliday).
