Jim Barry Clare Valley Assyrtiko 2022

95pts, Gold, 93pts... a triumphant vintage again for this fresh, distinctive Barry original. In August 2006, while on holiday in Santorini, Greece with his wife Sue, Peter Barry tried his first glass of Assyrtiko. Fresh, crisp and delicious he knew this Greek variety would thrive back in Australia, where it was not only not grown, but totally unknown. He brought some back to the Clare Valley and in 2012 planted it “at our Lodge Hill Vineyard, a special and unique site treasured by my family and suited to this variety” Since its first vintage it’s won high points aplenty and rave reviews. Gabriella Poy in The Real Review writes of this 2022 vintage: “A refreshing mix of Vietnamese mint, lemon pith and lime leaves on the nose. The palate is taut and chiselled, packed with tangy herbal and citrus fruits. Its angularity is fleshed out in the right places, leaving a salivating tail of acidity to finish. This is a tangy assyrtiko with many facets. 92pts.”
