The Wine
The name Miles from Nowhere not only alludes to the geographic remoteness of the estate's vineyard, but also in recognition of the forebears of the estate's founders, who arrived in Australia some 100 years ago from Ukraine, bewildered by what they were confronted with in their new home country, and feeling every bit 'Miles from Nowhere'. This is a 92pt Cabernet from the best blocks from old vineyards in Wilyabrup belonging to Franklin and Heather Tate. It is “... a big, generous red with a lot of fruit sweetness in its core, followed by commanding tannins92 pts” (Huon Hooke The Real Review), “… slightly fleshy … with excellent structure and poise. Dark fruits show blackcurrant and ripe plum with a trace of edgy black olive. The palate is smooth and seamlessly integrated. Chalky tannins and supporting oak complete a tidy wine. 91pts” (Ray Jordan).
