What type of wine is McLaren Vale known for?

The region only makes 5% of Australia’s wine, but McLaren Vale’s reputation is colossal thanks to its fine reds. Shiraz rules the roost, but it’s often boosted by Grenache and Mourvèdre in the region’s sought-after ‘GSM’ blends. Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced alongside Chardonnay and Mediterranean white varietals such as Fiano and Vermentino.

Where is the McLaren Vale wine region?

The McLaren Vale wine region is a short drive south of Adelaide and runs along the Gulf St Vincent, stretching to the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges in the east. It enjoys a Mediterranean-style climate and many of the best vineyards are in pockets cooled by ocean breezes.
