Best White Wines for Every Budget in Australia 2026
From refreshing Pinot Grigio and crisp Sauvignon Blanc to serious Clare Valley Riesling and premium Chardonnay, here's where I'd spend my money on white wine in 2026.
Australia makes some of the world's best white wine. Whether it's a zesty Clare Valley Riesling, a vibrant Sauvignon Blanc from the Limestone Coast or a beautifully balanced Chardonnay from McLaren Vale, we're spoiled for choice.
That variety is wonderful, but it can also make choosing a bottle more difficult. Should you stick with your usual Sauvignon Blanc? Is a $15 bottle really much different from a $25 one? And when is it worth spending a little more?
The good news is that there are excellent white wines at every price point. Some of my favourite everyday bottles cost less than $20, while spending a little more can open the door to wines with greater complexity, character and regional expression.
So, these are the bottles I'd look at depending on whether I wanted an easy-drinking wine for the barbecue, something special for a dinner with friends or a bottle worth lingering over on a warm summer evening.
The Best White Wines Under $20
At this price, I'm looking for freshness, versatility and plenty of flavour. These are the bottles I'd happily keep in the fridge for impromptu gatherings, seafood lunches or relaxed outdoor entertaining.
Few styles are as dependable in warm weather as Pinot Grigio, and this one delivers exactly what you want: bright citrus, crisp pear fruit and plenty of refreshment.
I'd drink it with: prawns, salads or a simple platter of cheeses and charcuterie.
Fresh, vibrant and packed with citrus and peach, this is the sort of Chardonnay that disappears very quickly at a barbecue. It offers plenty of flavour without taking itself too seriously.
I'd drink it with: grilled fish, chicken skewers or a sunny afternoon on the deck.

The Best White Wines Under $25
This is one of the most exciting price brackets. You still have plenty of easy-drinking options, but now you're starting to see more regional character and a greater sense of place.
If you're a Sauvignon Blanc drinker looking for maximum refreshment, this is a smart choice. It’s from Nelson – an underrated region for Sauvignon. Bursting with passionfruit, citrus and freshly cut herb notes, it delivers all the vibrant character that makes this style so popular, while remaining crisp and easy to enjoy.
I'd drink it with: oysters, grilled prawns or a summer salad
A classic Australian blend that combines the zesty freshness of Sauvignon Blanc with the citrus lift and texture of Semillon. Bright, energetic and wonderfully food-friendly, it's the sort of white that proves you don't need to spend a fortune to drink well.
I'd drink it with: fresh seafood, sushi or fish tacos
The Best White Wines Under $30
This is where I start looking for wines with a little more depth and personality.
The winemaking becomes more ambitious, regional characteristics become more apparent, and the wines often feel more complete at the table.
For drinkers keen to try something beyond the familiar varieties, Garnacha Blanca is a rewarding discovery. Grown in high-altitude vineyards, this wine combines vibrant lemon freshness with delicate floral and herbal notes, giving it both character and drinkability.
I'd drink it with: grilled vegetables, roast chicken or Mediterranean-inspired dishes
If I were recommending one Australian white that consistently overdelivers, Clare Valley Riesling would be high on the list. Moonlake captures everything that makes the style great: piercing lime and citrus flavours, bright acidity and a crisp finish that leaves you ready for another glass.
I'd drink it with: fresh prawns, Thai cuisine or salt-and-pepper squid

The Best White Wines Under $35
At this level, I'm no longer simply looking for value. I'm looking for bottles I'd genuinely like to sit down and savour.
These wines have the complexity and structure to elevate a special meal while still offering terrific value compared with many imported alternatives.
Hunter Valley Semillon is one of Australia's most distinctive wine styles, and Margan is a producer that showcases it beautifully. Youthful, elegant and citrus-driven, this wine has the freshness to enjoy now but also the structure that makes great Semillon so admired.
I'd drink it with: grilled snapper, ceviche or fresh crab
This Portuguese Chardonnay offers outstanding value for anyone who enjoys a fruit-forward, modern style. Ripe peach and citrus flavours are balanced by refreshing acidity, creating a wine that's generous without feeling heavy.
I'd drink it with: roast chicken, creamy pasta or grilled salmon

The Best White Wines Under $50
At this price, you're buying more than refreshment. You're buying craftsmanship, vineyard character and wines capable of creating memorable moments around the table.
This is a bottle for Riesling lovers who enjoy elegance and complexity. From Germany's famous Mosel region, it combines crisp lime, apple and peach flavours with a distinctive mineral streak. Beautifully balanced and steeped in history, it's the sort of wine that rewards slow appreciation.
I'd drink it with: spicy Asian cuisine, smoked trout or simply on its own
Few Italian whites are as reliable as great Gavi, and Villa Broglia is among the region's most respected names. Crisp, mineral and citrus-led, it combines freshness with subtle pear fruit and an effortless sophistication that makes it a pleasure to drink.
I'd drink it with: antipasti, grilled white fish or lemon herb chicken
My Final Thought
Australia is blessed with outstanding white wine regions, and in 2026 I'd encourage most drinkers to start their exploration close to home. Clare Valley Riesling, McLaren Vale Chardonnay, South Australian Pinot Grigio and Limestone Coast Sauvignon Blanc deliver exceptional value and are wonderfully suited to the way Australians love to eat and entertain.
But don't be afraid to mix in the occasional international bottle too. The best wine list, like the best wine cellar, always leaves room for discovery.
