An impressive 96pt McLaren Vale Shiraz from the "gifted" (Halliday) Elena Brooks and husband Zar Brooks. Their Heirloom Vineyards venture aims to "preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards and to champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming”. Fruit quality is high, winemaking is of the 'spare-no-expense' style, and the quality is outstanding. “(unctuous blackberry and licorice)... 96pts. Great Value” notes James Halliday in the Halliday Wine Companion, Stuart Knox in The Real Review points out its " Ink black core, just fading slightly to a deep ruby rim. The nose fills with mulberry, dark chocolate and vanilla aromatics.
