SGM with scores of 94pts & 93pts. "For once shiraz is the lead in the classic trinity alongside Grenache and Mataro, and the result is a nose full of red fruits – raspberry, redcurrant but also some earthiness and black olive tapenade. Expect a juicy palate, some sweet bramble flavours with a redcurrant tartness keeping it fresh and a soft mouthfeel. " (John Lehmann, The Australian).
This "funky red blend of Shiraz (48%), Grenache (42%) and Mataro (10%)..." is "Juicy and bouncy with a real meaty, rusty, medina-spicy edge that is very appealing indeed. 93pts.” (Dave Brookes, The Halliday Wine Companion).
Whistler Wines is owned by the Pfeiffer family, with brothers Martin and Chris at the helm. (Martin had run the Penfolds vineyards back in the 1980s). The next generation, brothers Josh and Sam Pfeiffer, joined them in 2013, introducing new wine styles and a drive towards sustainabilty.
For Sam Kim, Wine Orbit this is: "Sweetly fruited with rich, savoury notes, it's enticing on the nose with aromas of dark plum, cured meat, star anise, citrus peel, and potpourri. The palate displays juicy fruit intensity with beautifully rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully supported by layers of fine tannins, finishing structured and seductively complex. 94pts."
