Bill Redman arrived in the Coonawarra aged 14 in 1901 and bought his first vineyard in 1908. He was a visionary – even as late as the 1950s, there were only 200 acres of vines in the region! The Redman brand was launched in 1966 and today, 60 years later, it is still producing the legendary Coonawarra wines that Bill helped to make world famous.

The Redmans’ Coonawarra Cellar Door recently celebrated its fifty-year anniversary – there’s a lot of history in there! The Redmans were the first in the region to build a full onsite winery, and a visit to their Cellar Door gives you the opportunity to taste history in their distinctive range of Coonawarra wines. More than likely, you’ll find it’s a member of the Redman family behind the counter, who’ll be able to give you some extra special insights. (And remember, as a Vineyard Partner you also get extra treatment when you visit!)

The Redman estate owns five prime Coonawarra vineyards which boast some of the region’s oldest plantings. The Hoff’s Block Vineyard is named after Arthur Hoffman, Bill Redman’s grower mate who was one of the first people to establish vineyards and fruit trees in Coonawarra. Located in the heart of Coonawarra, opposite Wynns famous Gables, it boasts the terra rossa soils (iron-rich red soil over free draining limestone) that Coonawarra is famous for. Bruce Redman reckons it’s one of the finest vineyards for Coonawarra Cabernet – though he does admit he may be slightly biased. A taste of his magnificent Coonawarra Cabernet gives you reason to think he’s got a fair case!
