Howard Park's Margaret River SBS blend has impressed both the critics and us many times before. Sam Kim Wine Orbit gives this 2023 93pts, Jane Faulkner in The Halliday Wine Companion gives it 92pts, pointing out its excellent value and calling it "Really perky and juicy yet neatly balanced with refreshing acidity". It is as she also says "A very good drink".
Ben Riggs new The Kings' Creed' is producing a very attractiv e range of opular styles, such as this lovely Fiano from vineyards in Fleurieu. "It's absolutely worth seeking this wine out” says Campbell Mattinson, who has given it 92pts and called it Great Value. It also has a Gold and other high point scores.
Colab and Bloom is a collaboration between wine marketer, Nick Whiteway, and winemakers and winegrowers throughout South Australia. The emphasis is on fun and fresh wines from emerging varieties. this juicy Montepulciano is a delight, boasting intriguing “Tar and blueberry flavours mix with bay leaf, meat and toast. Its flavour and mouthfeel make it tailor-made for drinking at a barbecue, though in truth it is worthy of your better glassware.” (Campbell Mattinson, The Halliday Wine Companion).
Boasting a trio of Golds and considerable critical praise, this fine Coonawarra Cabernet is deliciously aromatic and complex. “Crushed allspice, blackberry and green ant spice. Sage bush, juniper and clove. Densely aromatic with wood ear mushroom and granite. A filigree of silty tannins that roll across, taking the blackberry flavours through. This is jam-packed with spice and otherworldly scents. 92pts. Great Value.” Shanteh Wale, The Halliday Wine Companion,
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit gives it 94pts "Wonderfully ripe and enticing, the wine shows blackberry, spicy oak, clove and rich floral aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that's juicy and refined. A gorgeously styled shiraz with seductive complexity, making it highly enjoyable." Tyson Stelzer approves of its "Spicy, ripe blueberry, blackberry and black plum" and gives it 92pts in the Halliday Wine Companion.
"No paucity of fruit and flavour..., from hedgerow, guava, green asparagus and sugar snap pea. A little tangy on the finish, but nothing too excessive 92pts Great Value" Ned Goodwin MW, The Halliday Wine Companion. Three generations of the Tomich family help to produce the impressive range at this Adelaide Hills address.
From the small sub region of South Australia's Limestone Coast called Robe. This is "most attractive juicy, medium-bodied style with layers of flavours ranging through blackberry, tar, licorice and plum, then a farewell of dark chocolate. Finesse and elegance are its calling cards. 95pts” James Halliday. Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot adds that it is "plush, finely balanced with a good flick of acidity". It boasts Gold, 96pts, 95pts and a Special Value star.
Bleasdale is <i>“one of the most historic wineries in Australia ... in 2015 celebrating 165 years of continuous winemaking by the direct descendants of the founding Potts family”</i> (Halliday). Among many major awards, they’ve won the Jimmy Watson Trophy and winemaker Paul Hotker, a <i>“master blender”</i>, was named Halliday’s Winemaker of the Year 2018. The winery was recently shortlisted for Best Value Winery 2023 in the Halliday Wine Companion Awards. <i>Matured for 9 months in 10% new French and American oak barrels. A truly regional Langhorne Creek blend (49/40/11% shiraz/cabernet sauvignon/malbec) which offers some spice and mid-dark chocolate to the palate. It's succulent, with all elements in unison. It's also stupidly good value... Great Value... 92pts"</i> (Tony Love, Halliday Wine Companion).
MadFish was established by Howard Park as a standalone brand with a focus on expressive, affordable, drink-now wines, and is named after a bay in the Great Southern (near Denmark). “... one to enjoy now, at a barbecue but it’ll mellow in a few more years. Cassis and cherries, cedary, woodsy spice, a hint of fresh herbs and some sway with the tannins. It works across a medium-bodied palate and has plenty of refreshing acidity and a touch of detail. 90pts, Great Value.” Jane Faulkner, The Halliday Wine Companion.
From the iconic estate in the heart of the Barossa Valley, this delightful dry rosé is bursting with juicy strawberry and raspberry aromas leading to a lively palate full of red berry fruits and a cranberry lift on a crisp dry finish. This was given 90pts and a star for Special Value by Dave Brooks in the Halliday Wine Companion.
From the Barossa's Schild family estate, this is an Eden Valley Riesling "Offering stunning fruit purity and poise... Superbly structured by firm acidity, finishing linear and impressively long. 95pts" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit). “... citrus blossom, apple skin and just a touch of creme fraiche. Dry, crisp and refreshing with a slight textural element, a nervy line of acidity and a long limey finish. 91pts” Dave Brookes, The Halliday Wine Companion.
