The Wine
Yalumba is a founding member of Australia’s First Families of Wine, and “has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied Australian reds” (Halliday). This is a very classy five year old Coonawarra Cabernet, named for Coonawarra’s distinctively shaped strip of terra rossa soil. “Expressive, leafy-edged fruit characters of blackberry and blackcurrant with hints of briar, licorice, dark soy, Old Jamaica chocolate, tobacco and clove. 94pts". Dave Brookes, The Halliday Wine Companion. Huon Hooke calls it “intense and focused, penetrating and lengthy on the palate”. A splash of Malbec is included in the mix. It's a confident, stylish expression of Coonawarra Cabernet Delicious.
