What type of wine is South Australia known for?
South Australia is home to many classic styles of wine. Here are some to look out for:
- Barossa Valley Shiraz – full-bodied, with rich black fruit and spice. These iconic reds have set the benchmark for Shiraz worldwide.
- Clare Valley Riesling – wonderfully aromatic, with intense citrus and a piercing mineral freshness.
- Coonawarra Cabernet – elegant and intense, with ripe blackcurrant flavours and hints of eucalyptus.
Why is South Australia called the Wine State?
South Australia produces nearly half of the country’s wine – but that’s not the only reason it’s known as the Wine State. It’s home to a host of famous regions, many of which have become benchmarks for classic grape varieties. Think Barossa Valley Shiraz, Coonawarra Cabernet, Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc and Clare Valley Riesling – just to name a few.
